Remembering Dean Jones
What a Bombshell!
The air waves today have been full of shock, disbelief, sadness and grief at the sudden and unexpected death last night (24 September 2020) of Aussie cricketer, Dean Jones, while on commentary duties in Mumbai, India.
Tributes Flowing
The message from fellow commentator, Harsha Bhogle, echoed the thoughts of so many people around the world, when he tweeted:
“No, Deano. No. I am speechless. And in shock. And refusing to accept.”
Gradually, throughout the day, hundreds of tributes have emerged, referencing Deano’s cricketing prowess with the bat, ball and in the field for Victoria and Australia. To many from other countries, Dean Jones epitomized the quintessential values of Aussie sportspeople with his colourful character, his forthrightness, his storytelling, his swagger, his never-say-die attitude, his talent and his innovation.
How’s That?
We are shocked because we still hope that we, and the people we love, will live out their “three score years and ten” and many more.
Dean Jones packed so much into his 59 years because he lived the way he played—full on, with flair, style, passion and determination.
Limited Overs
We never know how many overs we, and our loved ones, have left and when the bails on our wickets will be skittled.
Life is short. Cherish every moment.
