Prayer Vigil for Peace in the Middle East

Micah 6:8.

“What does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

Last Sunday evening we gathered to pray for peace in the Middle East. The following is a modified version of a prayer template and request from the churches in Israel, the Palestinian territories and Gaza for prayer. It was a wonderful night, where we formed our own personal prayers and surrendered them to Christ. We would understand as a peace-loving community that the partisan politics being carried out in our media and community is concerning and disheartening. Please be encouraged to continue to pray and these prayer points may guide you.

Prayer Points:

1.      Pray for a quick end to the conflict and the prevention of escalation into a larger war in the region.

2.      Pray for the God of all comfort to be with those who are grieving the loss of their loved ones.

3.      Pray especially for the children in Gaza who are witnessing unspeakable horrors and for their continuing recovery and healing.

4.      Pray for peace, hope, and security for the entire region, and that the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays so that Israelis and Palestinians will experience life lived in peace and freedom with one another.

5.      Pray for those who have been wounded during the conflict and for those providing medical assistance to them.

6.      Pray for wisdom and discernment for the leaders, that they may make decisions that lead to lasting peace and alleviate suffering.

7.      Pray that people of faith from around the world will unite in prayer for peace, demonstrating the love of God to all peoples, Jews, and Arabs.

8.      Pray for safety of local followers of Jesus and that they will be shielded from extremism and hatred, especially young people.
